Laundry



                                     WHAT IS LAUNDRY?

 

Laundry is a place where the washing and finishing of the clothes.  Laundry also place of ironing and garments or white goods that can be cleaned by laundry. At this section, laundry manager who was responsible for all operation. After that, laundry manager have to give report directly to the executive housekeeper. 

HOW WE COLLECTING SOILED LINEN?


    The room Attendant should note heavily soiled linen   when they remove the linen from the guest room then put them into the linen bag. They must make sure the linen must was not on the floor because it can cause any accident. The linen also must be far from the trolley wheel. The soiled damp linens should be washed promptly and not allowed to sit in carts or chutes for long periods (mold and mildew could grow). After that the linen will send to the laundry using a hand-carried or using the trolley. This job will responsible for the runner because they have to carry this linen.

HOW CAN WE SORTING AND STAIN REMOVAL?

Wear gloves when handling soiled linen. All linens should be opened up fully to look for stains and to shake out any loose items or soils wrapped up in the linen. There are many method of sorting such as sorting by colors, type of linen or sorting by degree of soiling. Firstly, sorting by colors, the linen must separately by colors. The white line cannot be mixed with color linens. The color linen also has their disadvantage because the color linen cannot be washed by using the bleach. It is because the color linen could be patch of white. If sorting by type of linen also must find out the type of the linen that they want to wash. They also must ensure the right temperature and formula of fabric. Lastly, the linen must divided into three categories which are lightly, moderately and heavily soiled. For example the lightly is for bed sheet and moderately is for pillow cases. Without sorting, linen will be over processed and it will wastage of detergent, energy and water.

 

STAIN REMOVAL?

Fresh stains are easier to remove than old ones. They  have to avoid machine drying and ironing until you’ve exhausted all stains removal effort. Time and heat can set some stain permanently. There are many method to removal such as :

EGG AND MILK 

Rinse well in cool water. Presoak with detergent and powdered Clorox in cool or warm water. Treat stains from meat juice the same way. If milk and egg was dried they should scrape using sponge with cold water.

INK BALL POINT

   

Apply Stain Out or rubbing alcohol. Rub on detergent and launder with Clorox liquid bleach and detergent in hottest water recommended for fabric. Repeat if necessary.

PERSPIRATION, DEODORANTS 


Launder with Clorox liquid bleach and detergent in hottest water recommended for fabric. If stain has caused color change, try to restore by using ammonia on fresh stains, vinegar on old stains. Do not use ammonia or vinegar with liquid bleach.

MAKEUP  

  

Apply prewash stain remover such as Stain Out and gently rub into the stain; let sit for 5 minutes. Then wash with detergent and Clorox bleach or Clorox 2 in the hottest water the fabric will tolerate.


WASHING PROCEDURE

Laundry workers collect batches of laundry and deliver them to the washers. Before put the linen into the washer, the linen must be weight to ensure the linen is not overloaded. For an washing process the following factors is most important : temperature (heating), chemical action (detergent, bleach and water), mechanical action (drum of washing machine), and time (duration of washing cycle).  

DRYING

After washing the linen they must used for drying the cloth. Lint filters should be cleaned at least once per day or as specified by the manufacturer. Dry linens as soon as the washer is finished. Do not mix load types in the dryer. Do not overdry the linen. We cannot leave the linen in the dryer into overnight.


IRONING

Only feed linens at the proper moisture level through flatwork ironers. Keep the ironer clean and do not iron dirty linens. There are have many type ironing such as steam iron, rotary iron, dry iron and dry cleaning iron. The linen that must have to ironing likes bed sheet, pillow cases, table cloth and napkin. The ironing is to ensure the linen free from wrinkle.


FOLDING

Linens should be folded after drying or ironing to minimize wrinkles. The person doing the folding should look for stains, excessive wear or tears and sort out these linens for additional treatment. Do not send an unacceptable piece of linen to a room hoping the guest will not notice it.


STORING

The linen should be rest until a day before using the linen. It is will increase the linen life and we should decrease the wrinkle at the cloth.


DELIVERING

The linen should give the linen to use area. We should keep the clean linen and folded linen off the floor.The linen must give to their owner neatly and cleanly.
