AND FOUND PROCEDURES
- Some lost and found offices will try to contact the owners of any lost items if there are any personal identifiers available. practically all will either sell, give or throw away items after a certain period has passed to clear their storage.
Lost and found procedures
- Lost and found item should be stored in secure area.
- In large hotels – linen clerks will handle lost and found items
- In small hotels – the task maybe delegated to executive housekeeper/front office personal
- When room attendant finds an item left behind by a guest ,he/she should immediately turn it to the Lost and Found.
- Items should be tagged, logged and secured after they have been turned over to the Lost and Found.
- A log should be used to record date, time where the items was recovered and by whom. There must be a space to record the owner’s name if the items recovered by its owner
- All lost and found items should be kept for 90 days . after that it is up to the manager to decide on how to dispose the items properly.
- Normally , the items will be given to the person who found the items/donated for charity.
Hotel Lost and
Found Claim Procedures.
- Any inquiries on Lost & Found items are handled professionally.
- Any claim received on Lost & Found items will be cross-checked with Lost & Found Logbook.
- Claimant must be notified immediately whether the item is found or not.
- Shall the item is found, a two-copy Lost & Found Claim Slip is filled out based on the article description. First copy is given to the claimant and the second copy is for Housekeeping file.
- Record in Lost & Found Logbook: claimant’s name & signature, date & time of claim, issuer’s name & signature, and date & time of release.
